Windows 10 is the latest operating system from Microsoft for PCs, smartphones, and tablets.  Whether you just bought a new computer with it already installed, or if you’re someone that upgraded from a previous version (whether you wanted to or not), Windows 10 offers what they call “universal apps.” These apps, once you’ve downloaded them once, can be accessed across all of your other Windows devices.  This can be extremely helpful and efficient for doing activities across all devices such as listening to music on Pandora, watching football on NFL, or managing your finances.

We’ve compiled a list of some cool Windows 10 apps that you should download and try out so you can see how much universal apps can help you get more value out of your Windows devices:

This task manager app should be one of the first Windows 10 apps you download.  Wunderlist, recently bought by Microsoft, is a widely popular app boasting over 13 million users since launch in 2011. Whether you’re managing work projects, creating a grocery list, or planning a party, Wunderlist will help you set up due dates and reminders to help you prioritize your tasks, so that you can stop losing track of all the things you have to do.  Plus, you can share your to-do lists with whoever you want to delegate them to, like assigning parts of a project with colleagues, telling your spouse to pick up groceries, or getting your kids to take care of cleaning their room before guests come to visit.  The beauty of Wunderlist for Windows 10 is that you can access your account on virtually all of your smart devices, not just Windows products, but also on iPhones and iPads as well.  Your kids will have no excuse to say they “forgot” or didn’t see your note to do chores – Wunderlist will remind them to do so!

Move over, Rosetta Stone! This free app teaches users another language in a fun and addicting way.  Duolingo “gamifies” your learning experience so that you enjoy learning through rewarding winning and lesson completion streaks and letting you earn skill points for each correct answer.  It also helps keep you motivated: You can set a goal on how fast (going on vacation in a few months?) and how much you want to learn (do you want to learn to be a casual speaker, or totally fluent?).  You can also take bonus courses such as “Idioms” and “Flirting” (perhaps you’d like to learn some pick-up lines?). Duolingo will remind you with notifications whether you’re on track to reach your goal.

Learn languages such as French, Spanish, German, Italian, Vietnamese, and more.  You can complete lessons at home or on the go across all of your Windows 10 devices – no matter where you go, you can learn a new language in no time.

Wolfram Alpha

A must-have app for students.  For the uninitiated, Wolfram Alpha is used by millions of people to answer questions related to mathematics, sciences, and more.  The engine uses its vast amount of scientific knowledge and algorithms to automatically answer questions, provide in-depth analysis, and create reports.  If you need to compare apartment rent rates between two towns, chemical reactions between household cleaning solvents, or if you need to settle a bar room disagreement that Google can’t seem to answer, Wolfram Alpha’s supercomputational engine will find the answer for you. It even has multiple easter eggs, such as answers to pop culture topics (Monty Python’s “What is the airspeed velocity of a swallow?”) or questions like “How do I win the lottery?” and “What is the meaning of life?”.
